People ask me why I love math so much. I always start the same way: “I love how numbers work together.” Depending on how patient they are, I tend to follow up with my whole spiel. It goes a little something like this:
Math is beautiful. You have this set of numbers, and look at all of the things you can do with them. You start with some numbers, change it up a little, and you end up with other numbers (or the same numbers). But what really gets me is that there’s so many different ways to go about problems. There’s room for discussion about different strategies. Sometimes you just have to stumble into a problem and see where the numbers take you. There’s creativity in how you approach a problem, but there’s also a sense of order because of the laws governing how numbers work. That’s really why I love math. It’s the combination of creativity and order.
